Prepping?

Citizens around the world are being told by their governments to stock up for 3 days to a week (or more) of water, food, a way to cook, a way to keep warm/cool.  There are fears of the grid going down – no electricity, no cell phone, no gasoline.

The web of civilization that has been created over the past 100 years is more fragile than we realize.

AT&T is phasing out the POTS lines (Plain Old Telephone Service) and not maintaining the lines. Without cell service, you don’t have a landline you can use.  How would you contact your friends and family? How would you contact local businesses?

People are looking into Ham radio and learning it isn’t a substitute for telephones or cellphones.  There are other options like GMRS, or Meshtastic or Meshcore in certain areas of the US, but they won’t do what cellphones do.

People are looking for many acres of land far away from cities, and talking about creating homesteads and even communities of like-minded people. Doing everything from scratch, living off the land and off-grid.

Why are we being asked to prep? Isn’t that what we pay taxes for? Shouldn’t our our government use our tax money to help us? Why is the burden of taking care of citizens falling on the citizens? What will happen to people who are poor, or elderly, or don’t have family or friends to help?
